FAQ

1. Which kind of extension cord should I purchase with this panel for more mobility from my RV?

The Renogy Solar Panel Extension Cable will be able to make more space between your solar panels and the charge controller. There are multiple size choices, please choose the same size cable for the extension. Also, please realize that the longer the extension, the greater the line loss. A bigger gauge will be required for longer runs.

2. What type of batteries can be used with the kit?

Battery type compatibility depends on the charge controller specified. This solar kit comes with a Renogy Voyager 20A PWM waterproof charge controller. It supports Gel, AGM, Flooded, and Lithium batteries. Still, Please set the correct battery type once it is installed and if a Lithium battery is connected, please manually set the system voltage due to the corresponding battery voltage. It also comes with a Lithium activation feature.

3. Can this kit charge two or more 12V batteries connected in parallel?

Yes, it is possible if the batteries have the same type and capacity and are wired in parallel as a single 12V battery bank.

4. Can I use this suitcase to charge my 120V receptacles directly?

The suitcase is not able to charge the 120V power receptacles directly. A 12V battery and inverter would give you the 120V output you would need. The solar panel would recharge the battery, the battery will store the power and the inverter would be able to supply the 120V power that you need.

5. Are these monocrystalline or polycrystalline panels?

High quality monocrystalline solar panels.

6. Can I use this suitcase on rainy days? Will rain damage the solar kit?

The solar panels are fully waterproof with IP66 class. They will be able to work on rainy days and are applicable in a wider range of scenarios such as marine, yacht, etc. However, we do recommend you use it with a waterproof charge controller since water inside the regular controller may damage the internal circuitry. 

7. Why is my solar panel under producing?

Solar panel performance may be hindered for a number of reasons. Most common are environmental reasons: Indirect sunlight, temperature rise, cloudy sky, and dirt and stain build up on the top glass will cause a reduced power output. Because this is a portable suitcase, you  may try to move it in place or adjust the kickstands changing angles to get better sunlight. The ideal output of the panel will be around 500 Watt Hours per day (calculated based on 100Wx5h expected sunlight availability).

8. What does the 12C/24V in the product title of the solar panel mean? Why is it different from the value on the label/specification sheet of the solar panel?

The 12V/24V in product titles (ex. 100W 12V Monocrystalline Solar Panel) does not refer to the actual voltage (Voc or Vmp) of the solar panels, but rather to the voltage of the solar system or energy storage system to which the panel is best suited. The voltage of the solar panel must be higher than the solar system voltage.
